Parts in devices

The Assembled view shows all spare parts that are currently installed in devices. When a part is assembled into a device, the assembled quantity is removed from regular inventory and assigned to the device. The inventory history of the spare part is updated to show which quantity from which location was installed into which device.

Tracking spare parts in devices helps you answer questions like:

• Which parts are currently in this device?
• When was this part installed?
• How many of this part are currently in use across all devices?

Assembly and disassembly

Parts can only be assembled or disassembled within work orders. Three source options are available:

• Inventory — the part must be available in sufficient quantity in inventory
• Staging — the part must be present in the work order’s picking list
• New — no existing inventory required; the part is assigned directly to the device without changing inventory levels

The “New” option applies to both assembly and disassembly.

Note

Not all parts of a device are necessarily tracked in inventory. If you still want to document a disassembly — for example because the part is to be stored afterwards — use the “New” option. The part is then removed from the device and can be manually added to inventory.

Assembling a part into a device

When you install a spare part into a device:

1. Depending on the source (Inventory or Staging), the quantity is deducted there; with “New” the inventory does not change
2. The part appears in the Assembled view linked to the device
3. An inventory history entry is created

Disassembling a part from a device

When you remove a part from a device:

1. The part is removed from the device’s assembled parts
2. It can be returned to inventory or marked for disposal
3. An inventory history entry is created

Parts in work orders

During work order execution, technicians record which spare parts were used. The usage and any notes are saved in the work order and linked to the spare part. This makes it possible to trace which parts were used even long after the work order has been completed.

Usage types

Each use of a spare part in a work order is recorded with a usage type. Some types require the part to already be assembled in the device.

Note

Only Assembly and Disassembly change stock levels. Repair, Calibration, Cleaning, and Update are recorded in the inventory history but do not change the quantity in stock.
